About

Neurodiversity (disability studies) is the academic framework within disability studies that posits that neurodevelopmental variations, including but not limited to those associated with conditions such as autism, ADHD, and dyslexia, represent natural and valuable forms of human cognitive diversity rather than inherent deficits. This perspective investigates the social construction of neurological difference, critiques pathologizing medical models, and advocates for societal structures that accommodate and affirm neurodivergent individuals. It emphasizes understanding diverse sensory and cognitive processing styles, such as variations in auditory processing, and supports the use of various communication methods, including augmentative and alternative communication, as valid expressions of neurodivergent experiences.
